On the third day of Christmas, York St John gave to me…

Three Vice Chancellors

York St John is more than 175 years old, but before University status was granted in 2006, every head of the institution held the title of Principal. When University status was granted in 2006 under the leadership of Professor Dianne Willcocks CBE DL, she became York St John’s first ever Vice Chancellor.

After retiring in 2010, Professor Willcocks was succeeded by Professor David Fleming OBE, who stayed on as Vice Chancellor until his retirement in 2015. In September 2015 we welcomed Professor Karen Stanton as our new Vice Chancellor, after she joined us from Glasgow Caledonian University.

Did you know that York St John has had 18 Principals/Vice Chancellors of the institution since it was established first in 1841.
