Peter’s Favourite Finds

Peter Monether

Peter Monether, Alumni VolunteerTwo days a week, a man sits in the Heritage Room absorbed in the history of the University, cataloguing the wealth of items that are collected there and accepting new donations from alumni and friends of York St John.

That man is Peter. You probably know him from this Blog and you’ll definitely remember joining him in his fascinations if you’ve visited the Heritage Room!

Next week you can catch a snippet of Peter talking about his favourite item of the moment from the Heritage Room.

His first choice harks back to the 60s and memories of former Principal, Canon Philip Lamb.

I just found your April video about playing croquet with Canon Lamb on the website. He was on my mind as it would have been his 110th birthday today! He was my uncle and I can remember playing tennis with him at St Johns. The memory includes a tennis-playing nun with her habit tucked into her knickers but that might just be my fancy. You are right that he had to win. He taught me to play a board game called Halma and he always won except one time when I was about 10. Then he told me that he had let me win. I’ve never forgotten that!
