With the use of a student’s first language (hence forth known as the L1) in the second language (known as the L2) classroom, what was once considered to be an inappropriate use in the classroom, it has led to researchers and teachers alike to reevaluate the perspective on incorporating a students first language into their teaching methods. As such with the ever increasing number of bilingual individuals in the UK there are going to be a number of instances when a students L1 is used during their lessons. Therefore, it feels only right to explain the attitudes and perspectives of both the teachers and students. As well as proposing some methods of L1 and L2 inclusion in lessons that have been employed in the past as a result of the research collected.
