York City FC New Stadium

York City FC’s new stadium is under construction as the diggers arrived on site just before Christmas.

All contracts relating to the construction of the community stadium for York City FC have now been signed and are underway.

Once the construction is completed the community stadium will consist of a capacity of 8,000 to host professional rugby and football league games.

This facility will also consist of a swimming pool, dance studio, gym, indoor and outdoor climbing facilities and a multi-purpose court.

There will also be a commercial development on the stadium which will consist of a cinema complex, three retail units and five restaurants.

The plans to build this stadium were unveiled in 2011 with completion originally scheduled for 2014. However, this was delayed and construction did not actually start until December 2017.

Their current stadium is Bootham Crescent which has been their stadium since 1948.

This development is a good opportunity to enhance their current community coaching and training programmes to allow the club to develop.

Dave Haddock, 37, a YorkCity FC fan said: “I think it will help increase publicity for the club which in turn will help to bring new supporters in to the fold.”

“It will also help to move the focus away from money and worrying about keeping the club afloat. Hopefully this will allow the club to focus on what happens on the pitch.”

Alex Cooper, 44, another York City FC fan said: “I can’t believe this is finally happening, I thought that they had forgot about it”

“I think that this is a fantastic movement forward for the club.”

“This is a good opportunity for our club to progress forward, the new facilities will allow our club to improve our first team, coaching and the youth team.”

“I am looking forward to see the new stadium finished and what this means for our club in the future.”

The new stadium and leisure facilities is set to open in 2019 along with the commercial units.
