Reflective Writing
We were filming in a group of three for this task which made it easier to communicate ideas, however as a result we had an increased workload. We intended to film inside the trampoline park so we contacted them in advance to ensure that we had permission.
The park granted permission pending on the fact that we complied with their safety advice, they requested that we use the chest strap accessory for the AKASO camera, to ensure it was tightly secured and safe. I was aware of location safety due to the work of Martingell (2008) who states ‘the key to location safety, being aware of risks and doing something positive to reduce them’. This led to a safe and successful shoot that had been delivered under the correct risk assessment procedures.
A risk assessment is an essential tool to ensure everybody’s safety when we are carrying out tasks. J.R.Ridley (2008) suggests that ‘The object of a risk assessment is to identify hazards so that action can be taken to eliminate, reduce or control them before accidents occur’. For this task we were filming in a trampoline park, alongside a road by a farm and around the city so it was important to ensure that we were aware of any risks and how we would manage them. Martingell (2008) explores the importance on ensuring everybody in the crew is aware of the risks and has read the risk assessment, so this was a priority.
‘You do need to pay attention to music copyright as it can be one of the worst nightmares if you get it wrong’ – Stradling (2010) pg.139. In regard to music copyright I decided to use copyright free music from bensound.com as I did not feel confident creating a soundscape.
For this task time management was important, especially during the production stage as we had a lot of locations to film at. Mitchell (2009) suggests that basic list making is an easy way to keep on top of tasks but they should be prioritised and reviewed regularly to ensure you are on schedule. In comparison to this, Bride (2011) suggests that you can use diaries, smartphones and calendars to keep up to date with task however I found lists easier to manage and easier to access.
