YSJ, Academic Development Programme
Professional Development for Learning, Teaching and Research
Are you interested in enhancing your own practice and learning more about becoming an effective personal tutor? As an institutional member of the UK Advising and Tutoring Association (UKAT), YSJ staff have access to free online courses to support your development.
The UKAT Professional Development Curriculum (PDC) provides a suite of scaffolded professional development activities to help academic advisors/personal tutors enhance their practice at all stages of their career. It helps practitioners to enhance their personal practice, develop their confidence, engage with the scholarship of the field and gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical bases for personal tutoring/academic advising.
The UKAT PDC consists of short self-directed online learning modules, longer facilitated online learning courses, and in-person workshops of varying lengths. All learning is micro-credentialed and digital badges are awarded for successful completion of each learning activity.
Further information and guidance is available in the Professional Development Curriculum online handbook.
All of the courses are mapped to the UKAT professional development framework. When you successfully complete a course you will gain a micro-credential and you can use this to evidence your development. UKAT offers three levels of recognition for colleagues to be able to demonstrate their competency as personal tutors. You can find out more about UKAT recognition on their website.
If you are interested in Professional Recognition, book to attend a workshop or contact the Teaching & Learning Enhancement team.
