Student engagement through ‘authentic assessment’: What does it look like, what can it do for students and why should you consider implementing it?

November 17, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

You may have heard the phrase widely used, but what is ‘authentic assessment’, why does it matter and how is it different to what may you already do? If these are some of the questions you’ve been asking yourself, this online workshop session is for you.

With a focus on learning and employabilityCuriosity, Communities, Compassion and Collaboration are the 4Cs that guide our YSJ Pedagogy; you will find each considered during this practical exploration of authentic assessment.

Led by Professors Sally Brown and Kay Sambell, who have developed a whole range of resources around the area, including three compendia of good practice examples across the disciplines (see: https://sally-brown.net/kay-sambell-and-sally-brown-covid-19-assessment-collection/), this interactive 2-hour workshop will review the underpinning theory and share examples of authentic assessment in action.

There will be follow-up sessions later in the year, facilitated by Dr Mark Mierzwinski, during which YSJ colleagues will be able to discuss and spend time re-developing their assessments.
