Session description

Prior to the institutional adoption of revised Generic Assessment Descriptors (GADs) next academic year, Teaching and Learning Enhancement are offering a number of supportive sessions to help colleagues review the assessment documentation they use with students (whether these are specific marking criteria, narratives for students in assignment briefs, etc.) and check their alignment with the revised GADs. These sessions will be offered both face-to-face and online during April and May and will provide a focused opportunity for colleagues to work with their peers to talk through their assessment materials and identify any areas where further alignments with the new GADs can be made in preparation for AY 24/25.

Session Aims and Outcomes

This session aims to give colleagues across our schools an opportunity to:

  •  meet as peers in a supported environment
  • discuss the current level of alignment between their assessment marking materials and tools (criteria, assignment brief narratives, etc. ) and the refreshed GADS
  • identify gaps in alignment between their assessment materials and tools and the refreshed GADs and plan how to reduce these
  • ask questions of peers and TLE staff

At the end of the session, colleagues will be able to:

  • explain the extent of alignment between their current assessment marking materials and tools (e.g,. describe how the GAD descriptors apply to specific assignment briefs)
  • make small, quick changes to their materials and / or commit to more significant alterations if required
  • Plan how and they will discuss the changes they (plan to) make with their students using clear, student-friendly language
