Discussing Decolonisation: Online Q&A with Dr Adam Elliot-Cooper and Dr Amit Singh

November 27, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Student protestors in Oxford holding a poster that reads 'Decolonise Education #Rhodes Must Fall!'

What does decolonisation mean in the context of Higher Education (HE) today? How should we understand the relationship between decolonial theory and practice? And what challenges and possibilities exist within decolonial praxis for structural as well as institutional transformation?

Join us for this online Q&A with Dr Adam Elliot-Cooper (QMUL) and Dr Amit Singh (Manchester), where we will delve into these critical questions and discuss the politics, problems and potential of decolonisation in HE.

The event will be held over Zoom, with semi-structured conversation between the speakers and hosts for the first hour, followed by open discussion with and among participants.

This event is hosted by the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Team at York St John University (YSJU) as part of a six-part mini-series, titled ‘Discussing Decolonisation’, taking place over the course of 2023-24. You can find out more and book onto other events here, and read more about our intentions for the mini-series and community expectations here.

Information about future events in the series will be shared both internally at YSJU and externally across the sector, with (free) booking required for each individual event via Eventbrite. Please note that the next two events (scheduled for December and February) will take place at the YSJU campus, in York.
