Part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme (research) for staff 23-24

Session overview:

Knowledge exchange (KE) can be defined as any ‘collaborative, creative endeavour that translates knowledge and research into impact on society and the economy’. Examples include continuing professional development (CPD) and formal knowledge transfer including schemes such as the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), consultancy and contract research. KE can also include non-paid engagements with external organisation and in-kind working where university knowledge, facilities or experience is beneficial to the recipient.

Participation in KE can have a direct impact on the university through the receipt of funds and an increased profile in a field or discipline. It can also benefit the academic though increasing the impact of research, maintaining the relevance of teaching and though academic advancement.

Ever wondered how you may be able to secure funding to apply your research in a commercial setting? Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are fully funded projects that are designed for academic experts to work in partnership with an external organisation (on average for a two-year period )to embed innovation and new capabilities, employing a recent graduate to undertake the work. Recently, a new scheme, Accelerated Knowledge Transfers to Innovate has been trialled for rapid, short-term projects (2 – 4 months) required to kick-start an innovation or scope an issue. Come along to learn how to get involved. This session will be recorded.

Learning Outcomes:
Increased knowledge of Innovate UK funding.
How Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and Accelerated Knowledge Transfers to Innovate work.
The types of projects that can be funded.
How to work with a business partner
