This session will concentrate on practical ways for colleagues to engage with, and reduce, a student’s distress. During the session, participants will:
• Explore the nature of distress
• Look at a case study involving a distressed student and member of staff
• Understand practical ways in which we can build a collaborative relationship with a distressed student
• Discuss how to maintain the boundaries of our roles, and look after our own wellbeing, in these interactions with students
• Learn how to respond to a student presenting at a high level of distress
