Raising Awareness of International Students (RAIS)

Raising Awareness of International Students (RAIS)

International student enrolment is increasing at YSJ at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and, whilst this is a fantastic reflection on the experience provided by the University, it also means that academic staff may encounter a different set of student needs.  RAIS (Raising Awareness of International Students) is a project established by International Programmes to discuss the challenges faced by International Students entering a UK Higher education setting and provide academic staff with the tools to support them. We consider the issues that may arise from a difference in learning cultures and develop an understanding of how international students might best adapt to UK academic norms and concepts such as referencing, essay structure, paraphrasing, note-taking, presentation and lecture skills. The workshops are an opportunity to engage in a friendly and open discussion where any and all questions are encouraged, and where we can work together to develop effective practice. You can book on events either 1-3pm Tuesday 12th December (Teams) or 10am-12pm Thursday 14th December (Teams) All booking...
