Raising Awareness of International Students (RAIS)

Raising Awareness of International Students (RAIS)

International student enrolment is increasing at YSJ at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and, whilst this is a fantastic reflection on the experience provided by the University, it also means that academic staff may encounter a different set of student needs.  RAIS (Raising Awareness of International Students) is a project established by International Programmes to discuss the challenges faced by International Students entering a UK Higher education setting and provide academic staff with the tools to support them. We consider the issues that may arise from a difference in learning cultures and develop an understanding of how international students might best adapt to UK academic norms and concepts such as referencing, essay structure, paraphrasing, note-taking, presentation and lecture skills. The workshops are an opportunity to engage in a friendly and open discussion where any and all questions are encouraged, and where we can work together to develop effective practice. You can book on events either 1-3pm Tuesday 12th December (Teams) or 10am-12pm Thursday 14th December (Teams) All booking...

International research has brought significant benefits to the UK and our international partners, enabling our universities to have a global impact. However, risks associated with international research are becoming increasingly complex. As an active researcher, you have an important role to play in making sure that the research and activities you’re involved in are safe. You should be thinking about what research you’re doing, who you’re doing it with and where you’re doing it. This event, provided by the Research Collaboration Advice Team (RCAT) will cover the basics required to engage in international research safely, covering:  Fundamentals of Trusted Research  An overview of the risks involved in collaborating internationally  How to evaluate risks in your own research, including worked examples  Where to go for further advice and guidance It will take place on Teams on Wednesday 18 October from 9-10am. On booking a place you will then receive a teams meeting link.  Follow this link to Forms to book your place: Book my place...
