*SUBMISSIONS NOW CLOSED*
‘Connected’ is a new York St John University online magazine developed, curated and edited by the Creative Writing and Publishing Student Representatives.
The magazine will act as a collection of personal responses to student life during the pandemic, as well as personal advice highlighting how York St John students have coped with and learned from their experiences of student life this year.
Our submissions window has reopened and is open to all York St John students. It will close on the 13th of April 2021 at midnight.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR CREATIVE RESPONSES IN ANY FORMAT.
This could be in the form of fiction or non-fiction writing, poetry, photography or art. All fiction and non-fiction writing should be no more than 500 words in length. Poetry should be no more than 40 lines. Creative responses should highlight your own personal experience as a student during the pandemic, and how you have responded to the challenges of this past year.
Non-fiction responses can be used to share personal stories or to discuss how you as an individual have grown and changed as a result of your experiences this year.
IN TERMS OF ADVICE:
We are looking for writing relating to things that have personally helped you to cope as a student. This could be something as simple as a bullet point list of advice, hobbies and interests, or something more creative such as your ‘Top Ten Netflix Picks’ or recipes that have helped you through this year.
We will include all responses anonymously, unless you choose otherwise. We hope that this will encourage as many of you to contribute as possible.
THE AIM OF CONNECTED MAGAZINE:
We want to offer advice and to act as a creative communal space in which York St John students can both voice their own experiences and relate to other students who have faced the same challenges and have found ways in which to overcome them.
It’s been a hard year, but the York St John community has continued to show that even in the toughest times, we can persevere.
SEND ALL SUBMISSIONs VIA EMAIL TO AMY.BOYLE@YORKSJ.AC.UK
You should include:
Your submission as a Word or PDF document, or JPG file for art and photography,
Your course and year of study (e.g. ‘ 3rd Year English Lit Student’),
And whether or not you would like your submission to remain anonymous.
You can submit up to 3 contributions across the categories (e.g fiction, non-fiction, photography, advice). However, only one submission may be successful dependent on the number of contributions we receive. Please make sure that you do not submit creative work if it has already been submitted to the Beyond the Walls 2021 Anthology. The deadline for submissions will be the 13th of April 2021 at midnight.
We hope to hear from you soon!
