Welcome to the Blogs and Podcasting team for the 2022 edition of the Beyond the Walls anthology. This year’s theme is distance, submissions are open, so get drafting and re-drafting!
But you aren’t here to read about submissions and themes, you’re here to read about the wonderful and talented people who comprise this year’s Blogs and Podcasting group. So, without further ado:
Team Leader:
Effie Warboys aka Biff (if you’re Dr. Sam Reese)
Single Honours Creative Writing student.
Key stats: Shakespeare enthusiast, dog parent and loves nothing more than a good pair of tights and a snuggly jumper.
Blog Sub-team leader:
Anna Jackson aka Annabanana aka Spanner
Single Honours Creative Writing student.
Key stats: Poet, Star Wars lover, former army cadet. Almost got kidnapped in Tunisia but did get to sit on a camel for a few seconds (true story).
Podcast sub-team leader and co-host:
Tarryn Watkins aka Taz aka Raz-ma-Taz
Joint Honours Creative Writing and English language student.
Key stats: Bass Player, has a love-hate relationship with phonetics, mastermind subject would be Paramore. Listen to her band, Fat Spatula, here.
Podcast co-host:
Elliott Scriven aka Ell aka Scrivaldo
Joint Honours Creative Writing and English Language student.
Key Stats: Geordie, batting average is exactly 5.00, more red cards than goals, hopeless Romantic. Looks exactly the same as he did when he was 14, just with more facial hair. Buy his book, What Happens When…, here.

Sophie Marlowe aka Queen Nophie
Single Honours Creative Writing student.
Key Stats: Morbid pessimist, shark lover, consistently writes short stories about car crashes. Lived in New Zealand for four years.
Thandiwe Grant aka Big T
Single Honours Creative Writing student.
Key Stats: Ever-changing hair (which I am hidden by in the group photo), Disney fan, Fantasy and Sci-fi writer.
Katie Grimstead aka Kat
Single Honours Creative Writing student.
Key Stats: Musician, a sucker for romantic fiction, funky earrings, Final Fantasy XV is her life. Listen to her music here.
Podcasting team:
Kayleigh Paterson aka Kay
Single Honours Creative Writing student.
Key Stats: Clicks with her third finger (try it), sheds hair like a retriever, was victorious in a year 7 short story competition and the prize was a trip to Leeds royal armouries museum.
Iain Barclay aka Bank
Single Honours Creative Writing student.
Has lived on EVERY continent, horror, thriller, sci-fi, fantasy. Spent his formative years playing pool and experimenting with various substances.

Josh Brittain aka Britto aka Tree aka the writer of this blog!
Single Honours Creative Writing
Key Stats: Silver fox, loves coffee, writer of all forms and genres. Loves Star Wars and Heavy music. Cooks a mean risotto.

Submissions are open for the Beyond the Walls Anthology until 14th March!
N.B. Beyond the Walls is only open to 3rd year and post-grad Creative Writing and English Literature students.
Also, there is a poetry and art showcase event on the 23rd March, submissions for this must be in by 7th March. This is open to all students also, it does not have to be on the theme of distance. Unfortunately, you haven’t got long, so get writing/drawing!
