Video Pitch

This is my video pitch, based on applying for a graduate teaching assistant programme. It contains a brief overview of my placements and the skills I have gained.

Transcript: Hello, my name is Emily and I am a third year student at York St John University. I am currently studying Drama: Education and Community and I am applying to a graduate teaching assistant role.

I have always been passionate about working with young people, and throughout my time at university I have been able to take part in various placements of different ages and abilities. This has solidified my interest in working with primary aged children.

My two most recent placements allowed me to work with children between the ages of 7 and 10, using various drama techniques in order to teach the PSHE curriculum. This was our attempt of incorporating drama into the other national curriculum classes, as it is not often a subject that is taught to primary school children.

If this graduate job leads to me becoming a primary school teacher, I would like to incorporate drama as a teaching method, as it can help develop interpersonal skills. These will benefit a child’s confidence, social skills and decision making, which are important as they continue through their education and into their future.

In my volunteering role at Mind The Gap, I was able to take part in workshops alongside students, as well as supporting the teachers and providing assistance to individuals who may struggle with particular tasks. To me, this was similar to a teaching assistant role, and allowed me to develop my communication with adults and students.  This also gave me a sense of working with learning disabled individuals, which is something that I would also like to pursue in the future.

I believe I am a strong candidate for a teaching assistant role, due to my prior experience and knowledge. It indicates I am flexible in terms of working with a range of people, and I am able to adjust to meet specific needs.

Thank you for taking the time to watch this video.
