Our Mutual Friend was an adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel of the same name, written by award-winning playwright Bryony Lavery for Hull UK City of Culture 2017. I performed in the new play with Hull Truck Youth Theatre.
I played the role of Mr. Lammle, one half of a duo of comedic villains who lied to each other about being rich before marrying and then scheming together in order to acquire money. I had to learn tight fight choreography for the scene in which I confronted my wife about her lack of wealth. This scene and our performances were positively received in reviews for the production.
There are laugh-out-loud moments – the fight between the cheating bride and groom who exaggerated their wealth to each other, was especially amusing.

For this performance I had to adapt to working in a professional theatre environment, maintaining a high level of commitment and stamina over an intensive four week rehearsal period. I had to quickly learn various technical abilities throughout the run. In addition to learning and safely rehearsing fight choreography, this included navigating an elaborate moving set, making quick costume changes between my opening scenes.
