‹York St John Student Union Elections, Kalen Reid on why students should vote for her. A group production edited as a solo piece. This was a piece that was more focused on how we used lighting and the process of editing in captions. Because we had a timed slot our group had to work quickly on the set-up of lights and the camera angle. This worked out well since we practised positions of the light in a scheduled workshop practical, several days before. This meant we could focus more on the guest, wanting to make them feel comfortable and that they have an understanding of what we were going to ask them. The recording session went great and only took another take just in case something messed up on playback. The next step for this work was to edit up the clips/moments that I found to be best, and then either type or write up the answers Kalen gave in her interview. Although this takes time and is a very meticulous job, it is a great asset when having to go back to edit in the on-screen captions. With creating the captions there were some complications, the timing of each caption was important and also how long a sentence or the line of a caption should be. This is because every person who sees this piece has to be able to read the captions, so timing and structure were key to control when editing. This project had a long process, but every step is key and helped complete this task›
