Mab Ford Terra Two

Summary

Earth has been destroyed by climate change. A group of 337 humans have successfully made it to Terra Two. Here, a scientist makes observations on the local life, but there is more to the planet then meets the eye. Evidence of past destruction suggests an event similar to what happened on Earth could have occurred on Terra Two hundreds of years ago. The scientist notes that, if life can find a way, perhaps Earth in hundreds of years may be habitable again.

Evaluation

I like my ideas behind this project and think the notes explain them fully. I think I successfully made the notes appear scientific by using arrows and measurements. I think painting pressed flowers and leaves to make them appear more foreign added a good touch of realism to the appearance of the book. I liked my design of the local intelligent life forms and think the painted picture went well. However, I’m not sure I made them alien enough. I used inspiration from real animals to fuel my designs as I wanted them to feel potentially life-like. I based some designs off flora and fauna I find to look already alien such as, mushrooms and deep sea creatures. I think I could have made the style of the drawings more sketchy as this could have made it look more like a scientific log. If I were to re-do this project, I would work in a slightly bigger sketchbook so my notes wouldn’t be so cramped. I would also add more colour so it was more interesting and eye-catching.
