Language Myths

Myths about language circulate in popular discourse, government and institutional policy, and clinical and classroom practice; language is confused with thought; sign languages are poorly understood and bi- and multi-lingualism is assumed to be problematic. This module is designed to raise your awareness about such misconceptions and will prepare you for the theoretical frameworks and language analysis methods that are introduced in subsequent modules.
