Dave Wray: Musician 

 

Dave Wray is an English retired musician currently based in Doncaster, throughout the 70’s he performed with various different bands that led him to perform in various venues, it his career has also led him to meet various artists, his career also led him to support various acts. Throughout his time in music he was able to experience life as an artist and what it takes to be a performer in front of large audiences. 

Dave Wray picked up his first six string when he was 12 years of age after hearing David Bowie for the first time, his first guitar was right handed and so needed adjustment for him to be able to play, he was left handed. His musical interest continued to grow after listening to The Eagles and Status Quo, learning guitar was difficult and had to be learnt through a vinyl player, there he practiced chord after chord. In 1976 Dave joined his first band KES which played in local youth clubs, later they would support Flintlock at Harworth, afterwards his band moved on to support a band known as The Fall in Goole.  

 

In the same year Dave performed on radio Sheffield live after composing two albums to go with a published book called Angel from the gutter, the experience was heavily nerve wracking, Dave’s career in music had led him to meeting various artists such as Phil Oakey from The Human League who he described as shy but incredibly gifted, as well as Jim Marshall at Porterhouse, the genius inventor behind Marshall amplifiers. Throughout his musical career Dave performed with his Wife Trish on vocals in various clubs as a duo called Time After Time, the duo used heavy equipment in order to perform with great theatrics, there was a use of computer sequencing, driving tone generators and for the most part Dave was on keyboards rather than his guitar.  

 

 

Dave continually altered his musical genres playing the blues, rock and reggae, this allowed him to follow in the

footsteps of his heroes from Eric Clapton to Gary Moore and more, as well as different takes on music genre’s, Dave is able to play multiple instruments and plays bass drums as well as keyboards. Dave retired from music in the late 90’s and has since changed his career path but he has been able to recall great memories from his time as a performer.
