Google Forms can be a great way to quickly poll or survey students (providing you are not capturing any sensitive or private data), to stimulate engagement and incorporate active learning to enhance the effectiveness of a lecture (see Stimulating Participation in Lectures). They can also be used for Mid-Module Evaluation, or to check understating & knowledge acquisition through Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Flubaroo is a free tool that helps you quickly grade multiple-choice or fill-in-blank assignments that you created in Google Forms.

More than just a grading tool, Flubaroo also:

  • Computes average assignment score.
  • Computes average score per question, and flags low-scoring questions.
  • Shows you a grade distribution graph.

The instructions below walk you through creating an assignment, and grading it with Flubaroo:

Step 1: Create an Assignment
Step 2: Create an Answer Key
Step 3: Assign It!
Step 4: Grade It!
Step 5: Review the Grades

Have you used Google Forms and/or Flubaroo? What approaches you do you use for polling, surveying or quizzing your students? Please leave your questions or comments below…
