New TEL Advisor

Hello!Photograph of Rosie Hare

I’d like to introduce myself as the newest member of the TEL team. My role as a Technology Enhanced Learning Advisor will be to support staff in using technology to enhance students’ learning. Working to the Academic Development Directorate’s annual objectives and the TEL Quality Framework, I’ll advise on effective ways to integrate learning technologies into the curriculum, where, when and how it is most appropriate for your students. I’ll also provide day-to-day support for using the University’s core learning technologies and systems – Moodle, Mahara, Turnitin, Media Library etc.

I have previously worked in the E-Learning Development Team at University of York and the E-Learning Team at Middlesbrough College. My main role at both of these institutions was to support teaching staff in their use of technology to aid and enhance their teaching so that students could meet specific learning objectives. I have also been involved in projects to develop a Technology-Enhanced Learning Handbook at the University of York and coordinated a pilot of in-class polling technology. I have also worked in libraries in Higher Education and the public and private sectors.

As well as working on day-to-day support issues with Moodle, Mahara and the other TEL Systems at York St John, I’ll be working on projects with staff from across the institution. I have a particular interest in social media for teaching and learning, Open Badges and the work around digital capabilities in further and higher education.

I’d love to hear from staff who are using social media and other tools successfully in their teaching or would be happy to listen to your ideas and suggestions of how they might be used here at YSJ.
