After some simple searches on Google, I’ve found some common questions related to sign language interpreters on TV.

As of 2017, there were 11,000,000 deaf or hard of hearing people recorded in the UK.

151,000 BSL users were recorded, and of those people, only 87,000 were deaf or hard of hearing.

By these figures, one could say that only 87,000 people need BSL interpreters on their television programmes (in actuality, it’d be difficult to find out the precise number of people who’d want this).

Again, roughly, out of the 66650000 (as of 2019) people in the UK (obviously not all of them have televisions/watch television!), only 87,000 could need the interpreters.

It might that the majority of the country does not want to be distracted by something they can’t understand, and so naturally they would want to get rid of it. They might think “why can’t they just make a channel for this?” and I suppose it would be for the same reason there aren’t that many interpreters on TV.

Money – it would cost a lot of it!
