We normally associate Bulgari with the high jewellery and complicated timepieces, but past few years, Italian luxury brand is expanding into hospitality business and opening hotels in Beijing, Dubai, and Shanghai. (SCMP, August 18). The Bulgari Hotel Shanghai, which is the sixth hotel by the distinguished Roman jewellery-maker. The Bulgari faces stiff competition not only from those newcomers but also from stalwarts such as the Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental and Waldorf-Astoria.(Traveller). Incidentlly, the Shanghai hotel also offers the first II Cioccolato shop and laboratory in China, on the hotel’s groung floor, offering artisanal haute couture chocolates, known as Bulagri’s delicious “chocolate gems”.(SCMP, August 18) The hotel’s 82 rooms- with lots of muted monochromes and marbles- arranged over the upper floors of an imposing 48 storey tower the colour of rose gold. The 400 square meter bedroom of the hotel is considered to be the biggest room of the town, which includes(Traveller), jacuzzi bath facing the Bund(SCMP, August 18). The bed is plush and comfortable, and everything could be controlled electronically with a panel inside the bedside table drawer.(SCMP, August 18).
Shanghai is build on multicultural crossover, enriched by unexpected synergies, haunted by weird echoes.(Traveller). The feature which defines their multiculturalism is that the nightly warm Chinese herbal drink as a complimentary service. Nothing hits the spot as much as a warm cup of red date water, especially on the cold winter nights. (SCMP, august 18). Breakfast is served at Il Bar with options of Western or Shanghainese set options or a la carte.

The hotel also serves Italian restaurant, Il Ristorante Niko Romito. The hotel also connects to the jewelry brand through its Italian heritage. Its interiors are designed Antonio Citterio (Milanese firm), who designed all the six Bulgari Hotel. There’s an Italian flavour: Handblown Venetian glass is a feature of its Italian restaurant. (Jing Daily, July 18). Bulgari offers virtual travel to Italy, something that would seem especially appealing to Chinese domestic travellers who need little reminder they’re in Shanghai. As the guests are expecting and are more interested in traditional Shanghainese- a opposite to Roman experience: so Bulgari are providing the bedrooms with the Chinese experience.
