What do schools look like today?

By | 12/30/2018

Hi everyone, welcome back to the blog. This week I’m going to discuss what schools look like today. Hope you find it interesting, leave a comment down below on what schools you want to teach in or if you want anymore information.

Schools today are very different, you’ve got Altschool, Knewton adaptive learning platforms and many more online schools, just like 20 years ago when you had Grammar schools, Private schools and Comprehensive schools. However, these schools look at children’s ability and how they can help that.

The Alt school is a personalized learning journey as children get to create their own curriculum and their timetables. Children go to the school, which is in a building! Yes, they actually get up and go outside. My mind is blown, too!

Here is the co-founder of alt schools explaining them https://youtu.be/JZlgYiXzu58?t=148

Whilst, Altschool’s are equipping children for their future as they are networking what they want to learn into a curriculum (Ventillia 2013). Business Insider (2017) argues that this form of education is extremely expensive, as most parents are paying $27,000 per year, which seems a lot when you don’t even need to leave the house to learn these days! However, in all seriousness, this is a lot of money for a school that allows children to choose what they want to learn and how they want to learn, but this again creates problems as, the school becomes more popular, class sizes begin to grow. Whilst there is nothing wrong with the growth of a school, as Ventilla (2013 said in Business Insider 2017) said they were taking on 20-1o0 new students each year. It can become very difficult to track progress and keep learning personalized, as teachers can become confused.

Teaching can be stressful enough without having to juggle a class of 30-40 students and their individual learning needs and keeping them up to date.

Therefore, I use a new form of schooling which incorporates the Knewton adaptive learning platform and the flipped classroom approach within one online educational platform – best of both worlds. Knewton is like my best friend. It knows all my students just as well as I do. It is a step beyond Altschools, it uses personalized learning face to face but also online (again best of both worlds) and allows children to see what they are going to be learning before they even step through the Virtual reality door.

I don’t want to ruin too much- so check in next week to make sure you find out about the new and improved online education system.

Cya,
