UNISON is the trade union recognised by York St John University for professional and support staff.
Hundreds of staff members here at York St John University are part of our union, and together we ensure that the staff voice is represented to the management. We make sure that no matter what type or level of work they do, our members’ rights are protected and enhanced.
Being a member of UNISON also means that if you ever have problems at work you will have a trained and knowledgeable person to support and represent you and make sure you get a fair deal. This might be if you face a complaint or disciplinary action, or if you feel you are not being treated in an equitable way.
You are also entitled to free legal advice on any matter, not just work related. Plus, there’s welfare support if you find yourself in financial hardship, and lots of other perks and benefits too.
Membership costs depend on your income and can be deducted monthly from your pay. For the majority of non-academic staff it works out at around £3 a week or less!
It doesn’t cost a lot and the benefits are huge! We get our strength from our membership, so come and be part of something great for you and for York St John.
