Meet our Team!

Name: Dr Ade Oyedijo

Course you teach: Operations Management and Project Management

What research are you currently involved in?

My core research focus is in the area of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. I have key interests in aspects such as supply chain fairness, buyer-supplier relationship management, unfair trading practices in inter-organizational relationships, sustainability issues in supply chains, supply chain integration in developing economies, and relationship marketing.

Why did you choose this research topic, how is it important to you and relevant to society?

My research area is multi-disciplinary and relatively new in the supply chain context. It encompasses literature from organizational studies, psychology, law, political theory, economics, and marketing. It holds significant value for practitioners as it highlights specific areas that need closer attention in their supplier relationship management. My research area is also relevant to the society because supply chain partners and end consumers are beginning to embrace supply chain fairness and fair trade as a yardstick when making collaborate choices (supply chain partners) and purchasing decisions (consumers). My research provides insights on how fair trading and ethical practices should be at the forefront of the relationship banner for businesses.

How can students get involved with/benefit from your research?

My research informs teaching in Supply Chain Management. From the Supply Chain angle, different topics can benefit from my research such as Purchasing and Procurement Strategy, Supplier Development, Supplier Relationship Management, and Supply Chain Ethics. My research also informs teaching in Relationship Marketing. From the Relationship Marketing side, different topics can benefit from my research such as Relationship Management, Relationship Development, Reputation Management etc.

Why did you choose to work at York St John University?

I wanted to start my career at a young and growing environment. I also love the city of York where our University seats right in the centre. My colleagues here are great and I have been able to collaborate with a couple of people regarding research work.

What has been a highlight of your time teaching at York St John University?

The best time is when my students get to experience the industry. Much of Operations Management is industry based with elements such as Lean Production, Just-in-Time (JIT), Production Planning and Control, Inventory Management, Facility Layout and Design etc. I believe strongly in industrial engagement and visits, so my best time so far is the time I get to take my students out to manufacturing plants and assembly lines of companies such as Nissan and Nestle.

Is there anything that makes working at York St John University unique?

I think the size! The colleagues are great, and the working environment is peaceful.
