The renowned ‘Banana Warehouse,’ a nod to its past as a fruit trading hub, now showcases ‘Quality Used Furniture Company’ in prominent bold lettering.
Below, a detailed list of available items and contact information accompanies the signage.
History
In 1925, during a time when bananas were considered exotic, FT Burley erected the iconic ‘Banana Warehouse’ on Piccadilly, marking one of the first buildings on that street.
Barges navigated the River Foss, ferrying green bananas to its rear, where they underwent ripening in specialized warming cupboards before adorning local fruit stands.

The Banana Warehouse later transformed into a haven for eclectic finds, housing furniture, curios, and an array of treasures.
Under the proprietorship of the legendary Dave Dee since 1994, the shop brimmed with vintage charm, boasting an eclectic mix of furniture, curiosities, and occasional hidden gems.
In 2016 the Banana Warehouse closed its doors.

Now, the historic Banana Warehouse enters a new chapter under the stewardship of Axcel Group, slated to become a lavish hotel while preserving its rich heritage.
Plans for a 168-bedroom hotel promise to breathe new life into Piccadilly, yet the iconic signage will remain.
