Address: 4 Scarcroft Rd, YO23 1NB (now Helston Flower shop)
Description
Against an olive green billboard on Bishopthorpe Road, the ghostly outline of the words “Olive’s Nest” is barely visible.
There might be additional text above it, but the entire sign has been painted over, leaving just a faint hint of the original lettering.
History
Olive’s Nest was a hub for handmade jewellery like brooches and necklaces, while also serving as a collaborative workspace for art groups in York.
Run by Gaynor Parr-Manley, it offered an array of unique and exclusive gifts and cards from both local and national artists, blending vintage and contemporary styles.
The goal was to create a welcoming space where people could come together to learn new crafts and purchase charming gifts for their family and home.
In addition to the shop, Olive’s Nest had a dedicated workshop area where craft workshops were conducted, providing opportunities to learn new skills from local artists in a beautiful setting.
Olive’s Nest closed in 2019.
