History

Nestled in the heart of York, Woodsmill Quay at Queen’s Staith has a rich history dating back to the 19th century when it served as a bustling timber mill.

 

As a vital trading port since Roman times, York’s Queen’s Staith played a pivotal role in the city’s commercial growth, continuing to thrive as a working quay today.

Originally a hub of industrial activity, this riverside locale has been transformed into luxurious apartments, offering guests the chance to immerse themselves in York’s iconic sights and experiences.

Adorned with a renovated advertisement and remnants of its past life as a mill, the Victorian Woods Mill stands as a charming reminder of York’s bustling river-side heritage.

 

Although once bustling with commercial traffic, the river’s role has evolved over time.

 

Despite facing challenges like flooding, Woodsmill Quay remains a beloved historic landmark, designated as a Grade II listed building in 1983.
