Review of Dawn by Octavia E. Butler

Dawn is a brilliant Sci-fi novel that imagines the survival of the human species after Earth has become inhabitable. The portrayal of Lilith’s awakening on an alien ship and her struggle to overcome her fear of them makes for a gripping story that raises some important and at times uncomfortable questions about humanity and our inherent fear of the strange and unknown. Octavia E. Butler offers a fascinating reimagining of nature that invites the reader to rethink their own relationship within the natural world, as she exposes the harmful effect that fear can have both on nature and on the people around us.
