Review of Reputation by Lex Croucher

a girl reading 'Reputation' by Lex Croucher, surrounded by colourful bean bags.

Georgiana or ‘George’ is a heroine straight out of Austen, a young girl of middle class background staying with down-at-heel relatives for her first ‘season’. She falls in with upper-class Frances and her friends, who attend wild parties and court scandal with little thought for their reputations. A star-struck George joins them on their adventures but slowly comes to see the dark side of the society they move in. The novel tackles issues of sexual assault and the reputational double standard for women while remaining an entertaining and gripping read.
