Why you should be a Student Voice Ambassador

Are you are a student at York st John university who loves talking, writing, editing and making money? Then you’re in the right spot! Being a student voice ambassador is the PERFECT job to have alongside your studies, and i’m going to explain why.

  1. It’s a way to make money in your own time! You can choose to work whenever you want, be it 30 mins here and there between classes, or one day a month dedicated to creating content – it’s up to you! This job is one of the most flexible roles to exist! Allowing students creative freedom to express what they love most about their uni and city – and help other students!
  2. It allows you to develop skills! When i first began my role as a student voice ambassador, I had minor experience with creating content, and had never written a blog before! I’ve found that this role has massively improved my digital skills with editing, writing and the planning process!
  3. It develops confidence! I truly believe there is very few people who can sit in front of a camera for the first time and talk without making any errors – even now as i’ve developed in this role, i still find myself sometimes stumbling on my words or forgetting my train of thought – it’s normal! However, my confidence speaking in front of a camera has greatly improved! Even if not visibly, it’s definitely something I notice when I record! My dependency on reading a script has lessened significantly!
  4. Ability to be grateful and give back to YSJ! I am someone who really appreciates mindfulness and gratitude in life. Be it enjoying the friendships and people in my life, admiring nature, and the opportunities life has given me. Being a student voice ambassador allows me use what i have learnt over my years as a student, and share this with future students! York St John has allowed me so many opportunities – such as starting my own business with the kickstarter fund, leading me towards the Global Student church in york, allowing me to volunteer abroad with the volunteering fund – and allowing me to study abroad! These opportunities have shaped my time as a student here in York, so allowing me the chance to give back and talk about why I love studying and living in York is something so amazing.
