Pitmatic Talk
Project Leads: Kate Whisker-Taylor; Magdalena Sztencel
Student as Researchers: Alex Terry, Grace Lelliott
This is a continuation from the 2015-16 Students as Researchers’ project that was run by Kate and Magda. In collaboration with Beamish museum on the archive of audio data, they are interested in the language spoken in the coal mines of the North-East of English and exploring whether the variety spoken by the local pitmen differs from the local accent. This project involved handling audio data and transcribing the audio, which will then be archived.
A great deal of headway has been made over the two years, however, there is more data to catalogue, it is continuing this year as part of the scheme in the hopes to organise and sort the data more.
