SR283MD – Staff and student perceptions of intellectual stimulation within undergraduate study in the UK.

Staff and student perceptions of intellectual stimulation within undergraduate study in the UK.

Project Lead: Mark Dransfield

Student as Researcher: Holly Spadone

This project wanted to better understand the perceptions of the phrase “intellectually stimulating” as used in question 4 of the NSS 2016 survey among staff and students. If perceptions do not align, how better can we ensure greater intellectual stimulation through curriculum design?

The student as researcher was involved in organising student focus groups, staff interviews, booking rooms, transcribing the interview data and completing a systematic literature review. Though the scheme, this project was able to produce 2 reports alongside a recommendation for the ELTEC committee, produce a poster and present it at the Learning and Teaching conference (in addition to a lightning talk).

This project is continuing and they plan to write a paper for publication based on the findings from this project.
