I am a performer and theatre maker who is intending to perform and create professionally after I graduate from York St John University. I aspire to perform and participate in projects as an actor and creator focussing on theatre based and created in the North, with a northern cast and crew. Within this portfolio I am including a copy of my CV and cover letter and reflect on past projects I have participated in and worked on.
Who am I?
I am a Northern and Yorkshire based actress- who aims to cross the bridge between theatre and working class. Within the theatre and acting world- there appears to be a clear lack of regional and northern actors and accents. Northern accents are still seen largely in the comedy characters- and are not taken as seriously as an RP accent. I aim to stay true to who I am, and where I am from, and participate in theatre and acting work that accepts a Yorkshire accent as something other than a comedy and ‘stupid’ voice.
I also aim to bring theatre and performance to my local community. I am from a rural area with a severe lack of theatre and the arts. The local school no longer has drama in the curriculum and theatre in general is not easily accessed. I want to use my passion and my experience to bring performance into my community- and to bring the joys of performance to a more working class community!
