Theatre Practitioner & Actor

The Answer

The Answer! Welcome!

I am currently studying the module CPP (Contemporary Performance Practice) in my third year at York St John. This module is to help us practice creating theatre as a company, ready for a more professional environment. We formed small theatre companies to create a piece of theatre together. We aimed to create a piece of theatre focussing on the surrealisms of social media and the relationship of consumers and the technology industry. We hoped our performance would cause the audience to reconsider the ‘internet culture’ and the absurdities of it.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic meant we are unable to finish and perform our CPP assessment, and have had to explore alternatives. Due to our sim being a focus on social media and technology- it seems that this pandemic may make our idea more relevant than ever, with people relying on social media to maintain human connection.

This module has helped me in a practitioner sense, by helping me to learn how to effectively work as a group to enable the best result. We learnt that assigning specific roles would mean the creative process could run smoother, with everyone having their own job and task to do.

I think CPP will benefit my experience, as it means I already have experience working with a group of people in a professional setting.
