London newsletter: April 2024

Welcome to your second quarterly newsletter exclusively for London campus alumni. In this newsletter, we share information about an exciting alumni benefit, how to attend some of our hybrid events and how to get involved no matter where you are in the world.

News from London campus

Spring break

After a busy first term, students enjoyed a well-earned Spring Break at the end of March. In the UK, the weather is slowly improving so we are sure many students took advantage of some of the milder weather to enjoy London.

A pitching masterclass

At the start of April, our London campus welcomed Titi Bello, founder of Ori Lifestyle, for a keynote on pitching success. Titi recently featured on Dragon’s Den where her hair care brand for Afro-textured hair received a £60, 000 investment after a successful pitch. With students able to attend this exclusive event for free, we’re sure many will have enjoyed this pitching masterclass!

Careers

The Dock

Did you know that our London campus has a dedicated start-up co-working space? Called The Dock, it provides a host of resources, events and networking opportunities for members. Alongside co-working space, members also have access to podcasting and content creation space, professional coaching, mail management services and a registered office space.

Alumni receive their first three months free, and the following three months half price!

Find out more about this exciting opportunity by emailing Julius.

Changing Englishes

Academics at York St John have recently released a new online course about learning, using and teaching Global Englishes. The course aims to challenge the assumption that the only correct English is British English or American English. You can find out more about this free course on our website.

Enjoy our inaugural lectures

Every year, York St John holds inaugural lectures from our Professors. These fascinating lectures showcase some of the research taking place at York St John and are free to attend. You can also livestream each lecture.

Ebor lectures

On 8 May, York St John will be holding a hybrid Ebor Lecture. Established in 2006, Ebor Lectures promote conversation across a diversity of religious beliefs and issues of public concern. Our latest Ebor Lecture will examine hope and common cause through the climate crisis. You can find out more about the lecture and book your free in-person or live-stream ticket on Eventbrite.

Webinars

Did you know we have 20 webinars available for free on YouTube? Each webinar follows an alum of York St John as they discuss their career, their time studying with us, and give advice for others looking to enter their field.

From Comedians and Cameraman, to Senior Directors and General Mangers, watch our full webinar collection on YouTube.

YSJ Community Festival

This summer we’re excited to hold our first YSJ Community Festival in York at our sports site. This free event is for our entire community to enjoy and includes free activities like archery, tennis workshops and a climbing wall.

Keep an eye out for an email tomorrow with more information.

Alumination

Last year, we launched Alumination, a blog dedicated to sharing the successes of our alumni community and showcasing the impact of our scholarships. We’d love to share more stories from our London campus community to showcase your achievements.

If you’d like to be included on Alumination, all you need to do is complete an alumni snapshot

Update your details

Every year we create a free alumni magazine and post it to all of our UK based alumni. Alumni living outside the UK receive a digital version. You can read last year’s version on our website.

If you didn’t update your details after completing your course, please do so now. This will prevent us sending a magazine to where you lived as a student and mean you receive a magazine to your current address, or digitally.
