“Success By Design” in Rio2016
As most will have read, seen or heard by now, the 67 medal haul by GB in Rio is the first time in Olympic history that a nation has improved its medal count the games after hosting. UK Sport Performance Director and YSJU Alumnus Simon Timson and his staff deserve our congratulations for all the backstage work done to make it happen, “not … by chance,” as Timson says. “This is success by design.”
Addendum: Since publishing this post, GB Paralympians also excelled at Rio’16, improving their London’12 tally of 34 golds and 124 total medals to 64 golds and 147 total medals. Simon Timson’s directorate is also responsible for the performance and development of the Paralympic program.
