Your CV (or resume) is the single most important thing in your employment tool belt. There is loads of advice out there on how to get your CV up to scratch and how to make it stand out compared to other potential employees. All of this information can get confusing, especially when different sites are telling you different things. So how do you make this wealth of information simple? The STAMP method.
The STAMP method was created by jobsearchbible.com. They asked dozens of career experts across the UK about what are the most vital things to include in a CV, and from all the information they complied, they created STAMP!
What does STAMP stand for?
S – Sell yourself
T – Tailor to individual roles
A – Align to the Job Specification
M – Measurable Achievements
P – Presentation
What does this mean?
Sell Yourself: sell your achievements, brag about your experiences! You need your employer to want to interview you and get to know more about you, so the more you brag about your wonderful qualifications and experiences, the more they’ll want to see you in person!
Tailor to individual role: every role you apply for, ensure that you tailor something on your CV to that specific role: whether that’s your skills, experiences or qualifications. Yes it’s boring and hard work tailoring every single individual application for every single job, but it will be worth it!
Align to the job specification: make sure you use the information given in the job specification. Don’t make your own requirements if they aren’t there.
Measurable achievements: talk about your achievements in a measurable way, i.e. say I did created 5 more documents which increased productivity by 37%.
Presentation: make sure the layout is professional, clear and concise!
