‘Talk about’/SGP:

Building Learning Communities

Hosted by Emma Walker  ‘The ecology of a university depends on a deep and abiding understanding that inquiry, investigation and discovery are at the heart of the enterprise, whether in funded research projects or in undergraduate classrooms or graduate apprenticeships. Everyone at a university should be a discoverer, a learner’ (Boyer Commission, 1998: 9 cited in Walkington, 2015: 5)

This round table discussion will be an opportunity to share ideas and best practice about how we might continue to grow and flourish as a community of practice through integrating teaching, learning, and research.

As founder of the HEART Project (Harnessing Engagement with Academic Research-led Teaching), Dr Emma Walker will be joined by Professor Matthew Clarke and facilitate discussion with colleagues about how teaching can be truly research-led and how when we continue to be always curious – a ‘discoverer’ and a ‘learner’ – we can create the conditions for building flourishing learning communities.

It is hoped that this session will be a space for colleagues to make connections and learn from each other and have the opportunity to become part of the ongoing project to support research inquiry in our teaching and learning.
