Getting funded: Online course in writing better grant applications – Scriptoria

May 20 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Marking or editing written work
We are now welcoming applications for two half day online (zoom) workshops delivered by Scriptoria.

Learn how to develop, de-risk and deliver compelling ideas for new projects – and increase your chances of getting your proposals funded – with Scriptoria’s course in Grant Writing offered online over two interactive sessions.

Scriptoria’s course in Grant Writing is aimed at early- to mid-career researchers who are looking to build their track record and fund their independent research by winning their first fellowships and research grants or the next “level” of funding. No previous funding experience is required.

Online workshop 1 – Monday 20 May 2024 9:30 – 13:00 on zoom

Online workshop 2 – Wednesday 22 May 2024 9:30 – 13:00 on zoom

Attendees should attend both sessions. Maximum of 20 places on each day in a virtual format.

Over the course of two online sessions, we cover how to turn ideas into a written proposal that is interesting and easy for reviewers to understand. Throughout, we provide real-life examples for participants to critique to complement the theory. The course also covers a host of practical points from budgeting to brainstorming tools to the professional writing cycle, including how to efficiently edit and proofread your own work to a high standard

Our trainers have a long history of successful grants and fellowships, and offer insider knowledge from their experiences as reviewers on grant panels and as consultants who help donors write funding calls.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to

1.      Understand the proposal review process and the reviewing audience
2.      Effectively manage a collaborative proposal writing process
3.      Understand the requirements for each section of a proposal
4.      Understand the key differences between criteria for fellowships and research grants
5.      Draft a compelling and concise proposal abstract and text
6.      Write convincingly about research impact
7.      Use brainstorming tools to generate ideas and evidence
8.      Assess and mitigate risk
9.      Understand the requirements for a project budget
10.    Refine ideas and writing for a less technical audience.
