Hello from the Beyond the Walls Blog and Podcast team!
For this year’s Beyond the Walls anthology, the theme is ‘Unspoken.’ We are open to every and all interpretations regarding this theme and cannot wait to read your submissions!
In collaboration with the anthology theme, the name of our podcast is “Unspoken Stories,” and will be posting their first episode very soon. On the podcast, we will be interviewing guests, sharing unheard stories, and talking about all things publishing. Make sure to give us a listen on Spotify!
On the flip side, the Blog team will be regularly uploading posts on a variety of themes including the publishing process, unspoken stories in history, and our personal takes on the “Unspoken” theme.
With this first little post, we want to take the time and introduce our team members along with their roles! Up first we have our team leader and producer, Rachel, who will also be contributing some blog posts throughout the semester. Our second-in-command and resident scriptwriter is Tom who will be helping out with the podcast. Then we have Ben and Tallullah manning the microphones as our host and co-host on the podcast. And of course, what is a podcast without its editors Ryan and Phoebe, who create the final products that you get to listen to. Last but certainly not least, we have Claire and Owen carefully curating and writing the blog posts that you can find weekly here, on Where Ideas Grow.
While you’re here, make sure to check out the other posts and writing from fellow YSJ students! And, if inspiration strikes while reading, consider submitting your writing to the blog or the Beyond the Walls open call for submissions! No matter where you are in your writing journey, do not be afraid to submit your work. Even some of the best writers still get nervous when submitting their pieces to editors and publishing houses.
In case you haven’t seen the Call for Submissions post, any 3rd year or postgraduate student can submit their work to the anthology. Make sure you email your submission to ysjofficial.editorialteam@gmail.com before March 11th as that is the last day we will be accepting submissions. Also on March 11th, we have a Beyond the Walls showcase which we are currently looking for performers to read out their writing at. For more information on the showcase and all events Beyond the Walls, please follow our Instagram page @beyondysj.
And as always, if you would like to submit your writing to be published in the 2024 Beyond the Walls anthology, please check out our Call for Submissions post at the link below.
