Why Learn Phonics

There have been many debates surrounding the topic of phonics and whether it should be taught in primary school or not. Although some people think that childrenĀ  should learn through reading, phonics has proven to have numerous benefits.

In 2014, a school in Scotland had reported a significant improvement in their children’s literacy skills since starting their phonics program. At this point in their teaching, the class 1 pupils were discovered to be 7 months ahead of their peers who were not taught through phonics. Incredibly, this lead carried on, and by the end of year 7, the children were still above in their reading comprehension.

There are many other cases similar to this, which overall, prove that phonics is beneficial!
