This is my next blog which explores education and its future in our society. Education is something that has been around for many years and one thing that is becoming louder (other than children at lunch time) is how much students aim to become an advocate for their own educational rights. Student have spoken and they want to see the future of education rich with student voices and an education system based on what students collectively want and need. As a student myself it is great to see people so passionate about education and not even be studying it as a degree!! Factors including global influences and paradigm shifts will change education and universities predict that educators will have to be more creative among many things. Future teachers will also have to be prepared to deliver an education that is personalised to each child, aiming to meet their interests rather than government aims (UoSC, 2014). Looking at current trends in schools desks are becoming a thing that hinders students and promotes uniformity, something that the future is trying to undo and change (Blake-Plock, 2014). Even looking at cafeterias they are becoming more nutritional and providing cheaper meals, promoting a healthy lifestyle (Blake-Plock, 2014). Improved curriculum’s have been called for to review core curriculum’s and redesign them, making them more relatable to the skills students need in a modern society. It is argued that schools aim to provide students with more opportunities and experiences that will relate to their future career choices (UoSC, 2014).
It is thought that homework will eventually blur the barrier between the home and school making every environment appropriate for learning (Blake-Plock, 2014). The removal of desks will mean students can have more opportunities to learn in different places. Education will include a flipped classroom approach where students can learn in and outside of school. Personalised learning will also become more prominent as students are given the tools to challenge themselves and discover their own interests. Free choice come hand in hand with personalised learning and students will be able to learn how they prefer (Henny, 2016). Collaboration is one aspect of education that will be improved to meet students voice (Fuscaldo, 2015). Relationships with teachers will see a shift towards a mentor and mentee with communication being based online through media sites including Twitter (UoSC, 2014). As mentoring becomes more important teachers will be central to the success of mentoring to ensure students are on track (Henny, 2016). It is estimated that in 10 years time schools paper usage will decrease by at least 60% (Blake-Plock, 2014). Exams are facing criticisms due to the pressure on students it causes and will soon be outdated by newer methods including portfolios (Henny, 2016). Many argue that exams like SAT’s are on their way out and in the future will become digitalised (Blake-Plock, 2014).

Are school environments suitable? Many have argued that these spaces need to be rethinked to promote creative learning (UoSC, 2014)
Like I started to explore in my blog schools ditching the desks allows more room for creativity. Arguably the same thing could be happening to handwriting which is already at risk of disappearing due to written letters and forms of communication becoming insignificant (Tomaszewski, 2011).
Yes definitely, it’s all texts and facetimes these days! Apparently PE is a particular subject at risk of being dismissed from the education system because of priority changes (Tomaszewski, 2011).
It would be an awful shame to lose PE from the Education system, I remember all the good time it brought me playing 4 corner hockey and rounders!!
In America potential presidents have vowed to make changes to financial costs for students and schools/ universities will be more accountable for what is being taught to students (Fuscaldo, 2015)
Ooh that is so interesting to hear it from an international perspective. Students are definitely becoming more aware about finances when looking at different universities. This will mean they focus on these factors more than the type of university itself when shopping around (Fuscaldo, 2015).
