The table above shows some of the vital phonetic sounds within the English alphabet that is crucial for an EAL student to learn and be able to use effectively to ensure that they understand the language that they now find themselves within.

A good tip  is to print one of these off and encourage the student to learn the sounds with you. This will ensure that the child knows what letter combinations make what sound. Simple yes, but effective when learning a new language.
