A-Z Tools & Technologies: edshelf

What is edshelf?

edshelf is a directory of tools for education. You can search and filter for specific tools, rate and review tools you’ve used, receive recommended and featured tools, create collections of tools, and share your collections with students and colleagues.

How does it work?

Each app on the site has an overview that describes what it is, images and/or videos of it in action, price, what operating system it runs on, a link to the app, and reviews from other educators (each app or service can be rated on Learning Curve, Pedagogical Effectiveness, and Student Engagement).

What about Teaching & Learning?

edshelf hopes to become a go-to site where tutors can recommend to one another what’s worked for them, and it’s building a directory of educational materials that have been reviewed for educators by educators. The site encourages users to find and follow peers and colleagues, tapping into the power of social recommendations and personal learning networks.

When you sign up to edshelf you can also create and join groups. You can then start topics and discussions, much like an online community or forum. It is meant to help you get qualitative information on education technology and apps..

Here is a great example of a collection, created by Daniel for the iPad Project:
