Social Media for Learning in Higher Education Conference (#SocMedHE15)

Finding our social identity

Friday 18th December 2015 at Sheffield Hallam University

socmedheThe inaugural Social Media for Learning in Higher Education Conference #SocMedHE15 will be held at Sheffield Hallam University. This conference is about the use of social media for learning in Higher Education. It will create a forum for academics, their students and strategic managers to consider the opportunities, challenges, and the disruptive influence of social media for learning. The keynote will be delivered by Eric Stoller (@ericstoller).

The conference has three themes to allow exploration of the pedagogic possibilities of social media, as well as the strategic and operational challenges institutions face in supporting it. The themes are:

  • The disruptive nature of social media
  • Social media for networked, social and active learning
  • The challenges of social media

Call for participation

Submissions addressing the above themes are welcome. We are particularly keen on receiving proposals co-developed with students. Proposals should be based on evidence and experience of academic, or strategic practice; in any of the following formats:

  • short papers
  • workshops
  • thunderstorm presentations
  • and an open format to encourage creativity – “Surprise us”

Accepted submissions will be eligible for writing up and inclusion in the Student Engagement & Experience Journal (SEEJ).

Accepted presenters will be encouraged to develop an artefact with creative commons licencing to accompany their submission, these will be made openly available during and beyond the event.

To submit, complete the form on the conference site, you will need a title, 50 word abstract and 300 word summary and email it to SocMedHE@shu.ac.uk.

Submission deadline: midday 3rd September 2015

Additional information

#SocMedHE15 is being organised by, and held at the City Campus of Sheffield Hallam University. It is a 3 minute walk from the train and bus stations. There will be a pre-conference dinner on the evening of 17th December, and information about hotel availability will be released soon.
