Higher Education as if the World Mattered

By | February 2, 2013

A very eye-catching title for this year’s Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) conference, to be held in Edinburgh 25th – 26th April 2013. From the conference website: “Now the words ‘as if’ assume significance as they imply that there are some real questions to be asked about the extent to which the world is seen to matter in the present policy context characterising higher education … We might ask, therefore, to what extent, the increased emphasis on economic returns is associated with a neglect of cultivating and demonstrating a real care for our social and natural world.”

We will be submitting a paper to this conference to outline the forthcoming research as part of the social economy project and the rationale behind it.

Interesting “…As If the World mettered has a clear reference to one of the most important book in economics called “Small Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered ”
